Bilal Unal
I am a post-doctoral research fellow in the Saatcioglu Lab, Department of Biosciences, University of Oslo. I hold a BSc in Molecular Biology and Genetics from the Izmir Institute of Technology, Turkey, and an MSc in Biochemistry from the National University of Singapore. During my MSc, I worked on characterization of a novel long non-coding RNA (NAIL) in regulating inflammatory responses in cancer and inflammatory diseases. Following my MSc, I joined the Saatcioglu Lab as a PhD student, focusing on the molecular characterization of the unfolded protein response in prostate cancer (PCa). In 2023, I received my PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Oslo and continued in the Saatcioglu Lab as a post-doctoral fellow. My research interests include using multiomics and single-cell genomics approaches to decipher the role of stress signaling pathways in the cancer microenvironment. Additionally, I am developing novel therapeutic strategies to enhance immunotherapy approaches for PCa. I am also performing genome-scale CRISPR screens to understand and characterize the functional roles of stress signaling pathways in prostate cancer.
